We were two couples, one from Australia and spent a week at Can Lluis. Carien and Rinus were great hosts and freely provided information on things to do. While the access road is a little daunting at first, the benefits of the place greatly outweigh this. The accommodation is very high standard and has everything you would want. The atmosphere is very relaxing and quiet apart from the occasional rooster. We spent pleasant days visiting local attractions and having long Spanish lunches. Rinus is a foodie as recommended several outstanding local restaurants which were also very good value. We had a most enjoyable time and would thoroughly recommend a stay here.
I can only echo the other reviewers' comments - comfortable and well planned accommodation with artistic touches, warm hosts, well placed for trips to the sea, countryside, or Dali museums. We hope to return.
It is quite a long and bumpy drive from the main road but once you're there Can Lluis is a little paradise. No need to say that own means of transport or a rental car is inevitable during your stay as shops and beaches are quite a few miles away.
The owners, Rinus and Carien, are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our optional home cooked welcome meal with them very much and it is was a very pleasant way to get to know them.
Can Lluis is set in quiet and rural surroundings. So not much for party goers but a haven for people looking for peace and quiet. Maybe not that suited for parents with older children.
I stayed in the El Trull apartment. It comes with two bedrooms, each with an ensuite, one living room and a well equiped kitchen for some home cooking. The apartment comes with a terrace with a beautiful view on the mountains. Very nice for enjoying your breakfast, dinner or a late drink.
For cooling down during hot summers you can use a nice communal pool. A real bonus!
Tip: Don't forget to visit the very picturesque seaside village named Cadaques.
The road to Can Lluis is a bit scary the first time around. It feels like you're driving forever into the wilderness. But once you get there, you'll see that it's worth it. Can Lluis is a lovely oasis of peace and quiet. You can sit out in the garden and listen to the twitter of birds and the cow bells clanging in the distance, or lounge by the pool and soak up some sun. Rinus and Carien are very welcoming. Breakfast is served outside if the weather permits, and there's nothing more enjoyable than munching on fresh bread while soaking up the fresh mountain air.
There are two restaurants in Cistella that are both very nice in their own way. Bardo is the fancier one, but the one next door is just as good, offering simpler fare.
