Zerkegem is a borough of Jabbeke. Already in 765 the place is mentioned under the name Sirigoheim. Traces were found of a Celtic cemetery and in 867 the "Villa van Zerkegem" belonged to the abbey of Sint-Vaast in the South-Flemish Atrecht (now the northern French city of Arras).
Immediately next to Zerkegem lies Oudenburg with many attractions such as the Roman Archaeological Museum and the 1000-year-old Romanesque church of Ettelgem.
