DESCRIPTION
Demeure D’Aliénor is a traditional and charming ‘Charentais’ home, yet with modern amenities, and lots of light and space. This inviting house’s colourful interior creates the perfect holiday atmosphere, perfect for a comfortable and unforgettable stay for up to 7 to 8 people.

The large garden with its wildflowers and fruit trees leads to tranquil meadows and canals fed by the Gironde estuary. The garden is often visited by storks looking for twigs to line their nests, or when teaching their young to fly: an enchanting spectacle you wouldn’t want to miss! In fact, the Demeure d’Alienor has been certified “Refuge LPO” by the Ligue Pour la Protection des Oiseaux, the most influential French association for the protection of birds.
The rolling hills that surround the estate, filled with vineyards and sunflower fields, invite you to take hearty walks. And the cyclists among you who’d prefer flatter terrain can rest assured: the region offers plenty of possibilities that will lead you to some truly picturesque little harbours.

Vineyards appear everywhere here in this region that straddles the Charente-Maritime and the northern Bordeaux wine region, le Bordelais. A ferry can take you across the Gironde to the Médoc where you can visit the great chateaux that produce “les meilleurs grands crus du monde”, with legendary names such as Margaux, Saint-Julien, Saint-Estèphe and Pauillac. When back on our side of the estuary, your vacation will feel like a sweet dream as you visit the fine sand beaches of Vaux Sur Mer, Royan and Saint-Georges-de-Didonne, interrupted by seaside resorts that still look like tiny villages. Talmont-sur-Gironde, just a short drive away, is one of the most beautiful villages in France, truly a must-see. Typical restaurants here.offer oysters and seafood on their menus, and are supplied by the local fishermen and oyster farms of Marennes and the Ile d’Oléron.

The name DEMEURE D’ALIENOR was inspired by the legendary Duchess Aliénor d’Acquitaine (1122-1204), who later became Queen of France and England. It is said she was not only a learned woman, but also blessed with an exceptional beauty. Acquitaine covered about a quarter of France at the time, thanks to its vast earldoms and fertile lands, and included numerous prosperous cities such as Bordeaux, Saintes and La Rochelle, making Duchess Eleonora d’Acquitaine the most powerful feudal Queen of France.

Demeure d’Aliénor is a large house, equipped with a very comfortable kitchen. Therefore, we do not offer breakfast or ‘table d’hôtes’. You can cook at leisure yourself, picking vegetables from the kitchen garden (on demand). If you wish, we can do some shopping before you arrive and stock the kitchen. Just give us your shopping list in advance and we’ll be happy to get whatever you need. You can reimburse us after arriving.
Upstairs you will find 3 beautifully decorated and comfortable bedrooms.

The Alienor Room
Queen of France, and later Queen of England, Eleanor of Aquitaine was an exceptionally beauty and the richest and most powerful of medieval women. This room is furnished with a king-size bed with exquisite linen in a range of pastel colours; the islet red bath and matching sink complete this room fit for a queen.

The Haiku Room
Haiku is a very short form of Japanese poetry in three phrases, which is mostly inspired by nature. This room also has a king-size bed with exquisite linen in natural colours . Nature inspires respect and is at odds with the purely material world. Communication with nature will help you forget the tensions of daily life. Lovers of nature and birds will surely feel at home in this room.

The Nieuwpoort Room
An ode to the sea and to the Belgian coastal city of Nieuwpoort, this room offers a large double bed and exquisite linen with a graphic design. A single bed in the extended part of the room, allows this room to accommodate three people. The extended room is equipped with a double sink. Children in particular are fascinated when entering this room.

You will find a night toilet on the overflow passageway.
On the ground level, near the light-filled living room, you will discover a comfortable walk-in shower, a sink, a make-up table and toilet.
