We stayed in the Le Maison de Marie which was an absolute joy. We were there with our 3 young children (9, 2 & 1). The cottage was brilliantly finished with little touches that brought out the character of the French countryside. The cottage, owned by Liz & Corentin Lamour, is located on a family farm along with 3 other holiday cottages. The kitchen contains all the modern facilities of cooker, fridge, dishwasher, microwave. It is very well kept and spotlessly clean.
We took the Cork-Roscoff ferry and is only about 1hr to Plelo from Roscoff. Plelo is located only a few kilometres from the Motorway so travelling around was easy. The cottages themselves are well in from the road so are safe & quiet. St. Brieuc is only a couple of minutes down the motorway and has pretty much anything you want.
Other attractions we visited were St. Malo, Zoo Park in Tregomeur, Binic, Oceanopolis Aquarium in Brest & Ile-de-Brehat.
Overall I would definetly return for a fantastic peaceful holiday. Definitely recommended.
My partner and I stayed here while traveling through France. We absolutely loved it! The owners are lovely and very helpful, it was such a pleasure. Our house had everything you could need. Plus a beautiful garden to sit and soak in the sun. Close to town with shops. Also, the owners have a restaurant nearby with amazing homecooked food of Bretagne. Crepes and a plate of ham, sausage and vegetables that my boyfriend still says was his best meal. Housemade cider as well! It really was such a treat and would reccommend to anyone traveling through Bretagne.
We stayed here last summer with our three year old daughter and had the most wonderful time. The small hamlet of cottages have been superbly renovated with each cottage designed in a different style. In our house (Mary) we had three bedrooms (one of which had a gorgeous princess canopy bed) and a wonderful large garden which got sun most of the day. Our pictures do more justice to the beauty of the place so I shall stick to the practicalities!
The cottage was fully stocked with a full size dishwasher, large fridge/freezer, nespresso coffee machine (you can buy the capsules in the local carrefour but they are called something different - ask the owner of the gite and she will tell you), full oven, microwave, flat screen satellite tv and access to a portable internet connection (just ask the owners and they will give you this free of charge). On site there is a small wooden cottage which houses two washers and tumble dryer and all the cleaning products you could need. It also contains an area stocked with a good amount of useful information on the local area from maps to local attractions, places to eat and so on. A small collection of library books and magazines are also available to borrow.
We were a bit worried that the area might be a bit quiet for our daughter, but not at all. There was plenty of places to visit in the surrounding region, beautiful beaches, walks and a market every day within a twenty minute drive. The owners provide a full list of the daily markets on your arrival and are on hand to advise you at any point during your stay. Although they live across the road, I did not feel in any way that we were being overlooked. In fact the layout of the cottages ensures that each individual cottage has its own private garden and feeling of space.
There were several hypermarkets and larger towns within a ten or so minute drive but also a lovely local town which could be reached by a fifteen minute stroll down a track from the hamlet.
We visited a few beaches in the area and again very lovely and within easy reach.
The owners family also owns a local restaurant and farm (www.aucharabanc.com) which houses a gorgeous restaurant in gorgeous surroundings, pedaloes for the children, farm animals, a play area, a small shop and a flea market. Well worth a vist.
I really would recommend this gite complex to either a couple looking for a romantic break away, (lots of fairy lights and beautiful beds) but equally to a family as we did not feel at any time that we were intruding or not welcome for having children.
My only negatives and these really are small is that in our three bedroom house, although having two bathrooms, did not have a bath only a shower. There was a baby bath however, which my three year old had no problem using. The only other small recommendation I would have to the owners to make the place perfect, is that there perhaps needs to be an extra sofa in the lounge as one sofa was not really enough if the house had had full capacity. These are minor points however and were only issues in the cottage we stayed in. I am unable to comment on the other cottages however the website shows each one in detail.
Plus points worth mentioning for families:-
Plastic bowls/plates/cutlery for little ones
High chair in cottage
Beautiful childrens bedroom with two single beds, teddies, fairy lights, a desk, blackboard......
Wooden outdoor play area with a slide and castle
Cartoons (but not in English when we were there but I think there was plans to have UK tv)
